Regularly scheduled meetings of Miami For Peace are currently planned to be held the second and fourth Sundays every month, at 4 p.m. at the Miami Friends (Quakers) meeting house.

The next meeting will be held after the holidays--and after our January 11, 2009 action:

At the Quaker meeting house:

We have been meeting as scheduled, though sometimes quite small in number. If you live in the area and want to be actively for peace, not just passively monitoring the situation, come join us.

Call to action - 7th anniversary of first prisoners arriving -

Obama has promised to close the Guantanamo detention camp. That would be a good thing. But simply moving detainees is not good enough!

Shut down Guantanamo!

End torture at the hands of the U.S.!

Sunday, January 11, 2009

11:00 a.m.

Lincoln rd. Mall @ Washington

Join us to remind Obama of his promise & push him to do more. Come out for a walk to end torture. Sign up to be part of the sun-up to sun-down fast until the Inauguration.

Wage Peace

Prepare for waging peace! Get ready for the demonstrations on March 19, 2005, the second anniversary of the U.S. assault on Iraq. Share the resources and links with your friends, workmates and religious group--Miami is like the last US military outpost before the foreign bases begin, and the local media apparently believe that repeated assaults on and even occupations of other lands by U.S. troops is somehow normal and necessary to the right function of the world (editorially translated as "whatever it takes to keep the money and any really rich people coming to Miami").

Whatever else you do today, please see the web site of the American Friends [Quakers] Service Committee dedicated to waging peace and ending the war in Iraq--use the new link on the right side of this blog page. Then--please tell other people!

My Miami For Peace blog

Until the web site at www.miamiforpeace.org becomes fully operational, I want a place to post news and preview events that I can easily tell others about--and that has Miami For Peace in the name! Once the web site for Miami For Peace is up and running as it should be, it will be a simple thing to let this site sit as it is, a version of archiving, and once it is hopelessly out of date, I can decide to delete it.

Peace,
--Warren
